The All-Important and Flexible C7 Chord Position

Not only is the C7 chord position a very important and vital position for any guitarist, but it’s what can be done with the C7 chord that is most infinitely amazing and intriguing!

The C7 chord is one of the most movable and flexible of all chord positions, and the left-hand dampening that is associated with it is key to its many uses. In today's lesson we will work on moving it up and down the neck, and then learning to “squeeze” the chords to get the rhythms tighter and funkier.

One of the really cool aspects of the C7 chord positions are the lead up basslines that can be incorporated with them. I urge you to concentrate on some of these funky runs and positions as a way of further understanding the true variety and flexibility of what can be created with this very important chord form.—Arlen Roth
